When looking at samples, remember that colors can affect your mood. Cool colors like green, deep gray, lavender, and aqua appear to recede and are, therefore, calming and relaxing. Warm colors like red, orange, brown, and yellow move toward the eye and look more active. Thus, warm colors have a stimulating effect. Keep in mind that light colors make a room look larger.

Primer and sheen

While paint adds color, sheen, and protection from external elements, primer is needed to seal a surface, create an even surface, provide adhesion, and block stains. If you are painting new drywall or making a big change in color, it is best to apply a separate primer rather than use a paint-and-primer-in-one product. Sheen, which ranges from glossy to flat, is the glossiness of a finish. Sheen emphasizes flaws. If your wall is not perfect, choose one with a little sheen like satin, eggshell, and matte. More sheen makes it more durable and easier to clean. Look for low, semi-gloss, and high-gloss paint.
