Mohawk Greenworks
Environmental Leadership that Works
Mohawk believes environmental stewardship and sustainable initiatives makes good business sense.
Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, and Renew
Mohawk seeks ways to reduce, recycle, reuse, and renew. Doing the right thing takes effort, and they are doing what is best for the environment, their business, their industry, and for all of us.
- More than 500 Mohawk Products -- from their carpets, carpet tiles, and cushions to their laminates and ceramic tiles -- contain recycled materials.
- Mohawk can recycle any kind of latex-backed carpet, regardless of what fiber is used -- polyester, polypropylene, PTT, Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6.
- Available in GREEN no matter the color. One out of four recycle plastic bottles in North America transforms into components that make Mohawk EverStrand® residential carpeting. That's almost THREE BILLION bottles a year.
- All Laminate Boards made in the U.S. contain 75% pre-consumer recycled content. Mohawk Laminate uses only renewable, fast-growing southern pine. Six times more trees are planted than harvested by our suppliers. Wood Waster from manufacturing is used as bio-mass fuel for process heating.
- 100% of water from the manufacturing process at most Mohawk ceramic tile facilities is reused and never discharged as waste.
- Mohawk diverts more than 1.75 billion pounds of pre-consumer and post-consumer waste from landfills each year --and that number grows annually.
From field to floor ...
The future is in renewable fiber technologies. SmartStrand® with DuPont™ Sorona® polymer substitutes agricultural resources for petroleum-based chemicals. SmartStrand remains durable and stain resistant. Every seven yards of 40-ounce SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona polymer saves one gallon of gasoline.
